The C-NOOFS compute grid consists of 14 Sun Fire x4100M2 and x4200M2 dual socket nodes.
Each node has 2x AMD Opteron 2218 dual core processors running at 2.6Ghz, 16GB of DDR2533 SDRAM, and two internal 73GB SAS HDDs in a RAID 1 configuration.
The operating system used is Sun Solaris 10 8/07 (Update 4). The cluster is interconnected by an Infiniband backbone for parallel computing.
Hardware components of the C-NOOFS compute architecture:
- Storage(1): 1TB of RAID50
- Services machine (2) for the grid, providing LDAP, shared home directories, as well as hosting the N1 System Manager Application (x4100).
- Infiniband switches (3 & 4) provide high bandwidth, ultra low latency, interconnect between all compute nodes.
- 9 port 12x Infiniband switch (Sun)(3)
- 24 port 4x Infiniband switch (Flextronics)(4)
- 1.5TB of RAID5 additional storage (Overland REO 1000 SAN)(5).
- 13 compute nodes (6), divided into production and development environments, provide the horsepower behind the C-NOOFS forecast system.
